Start with: a gentle cleanser, moisturiser if needed and sunscreen. Benzoyl peroxide has strong acne-guideline support for inflammatory breakouts; salicylic acid can help clogged pores, while azelaic acid may address acne and post-acne marks. Pick one treatment, follow the product directions and give it time.
Watch for: dryness, stinging or stacking multiple acids. Deep painful acne or scarring deserves dermatology care.
Read the acne ingredient guide →Start with: a mild fragrance-free cleanser and a moisturiser you will use consistently. Glycerin attracts water; petrolatum helps reduce water loss; ceramides can support the barrier when formulated well. A cream or ointment may suit very dry skin better than a light gel.
Watch for: 'unscented' formulas that can still contain masking fragrance, and new products that sting or trigger a rash. Persistent reactions need a clinician.
Read the sensitive skin guide →Start with: broad-spectrum sunscreen, plus shade and clothing. For some pigmentation concerns, a tinted formula with iron oxides can help address visible-light exposure. Azelaic acid or a retinoid may be useful in the right context, but irritation can worsen marks.
Watch for: changing or unusual spots. Get these assessed rather than covering them with skincare. Pregnancy changes advice around retinoids.
Read the dark spot guide →Start with: gentle cleansing, a suitable moisturiser and broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher for exposed skin. A serum is optional. For younger skin, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends keeping the routine simple and avoiding adult anti-ageing actives without a reason.
Watch for: the price per 100 mL and whether the formula suits your skin. A pretty bottle does not establish better outcomes.
