The fun part—and the important limit

Project Glow's planned Skin Age Detector will estimate how old facial skin appears in a photo. It is meant as a playful first look, not a medical test, a score of attractiveness or a measurement of health. Your actual age is not inferred from skin biology, and one number cannot explain why a result appears older or younger.

A study of perceived age found that changing the photographic presentation changed assessors' estimates. A selfie in bright front light, a dim bathroom photo and a close wide-angle shot are different inputs. That makes a single result poor evidence of progress or decline.

Why the number may surprise you

Skin texture, fine lines and uneven tone can influence appearance, but so can shadows, expression, makeup, camera processing and image quality. The model may also perform differently across skin tones and age groups until it has been independently evaluated on a diverse set. Project Glow should communicate those limits with every result.

If the estimate catches your attention, ask a more useful question: is your concern dryness, breakouts, visible spots or irritation? A full skin analysis can organise visible observations alongside your own goals. It still cannot diagnose a condition from a photograph.

From curiosity to a useful routine

Start with basics that apply to many adults: gentle cleansing, moisturising when needed and broad-spectrum sun protection. Then consider one concern at a time. A label scan can explain whether a product contains an ingredient studied for that concern, but it cannot reveal every concentration or predict your personal response.

If a spot changes, symptoms persist or acne is painful or scarring, speak with a qualified clinician. For the November 2026 beta, join the waitlist for access updates. The website itself does not analyse or upload photos.

Frequently asked questions

Can a selfie tell my real skin age?

No. It can offer an apparent-age estimate from visible features, with meaningful uncertainty.

Why did my result change between photos?

Lighting, angle, expression and image processing can alter an appearance-based estimate.

Does an older-looking result mean my skin is unhealthy?

No. A photo estimate is not a health measure or diagnosis. Look at your actual concerns and seek professional advice when needed.
